Spotify Trojan Advertisement Ruined Christmas
Sex is still not a comfortable topic for many people including anything related to birth control. Many Spotify Free users got very uncomfortable with the advertisements of Trojan condoms during the Christmas holiday this year.
Lucky for those who use Spotify Unlimited or Spotify Premium, because the annual gathering with your family couldn’t be more awkward than hearing sexual words inbetween the music played in the living room. Imagine having your 7 year old niece sitting next to you while listening to some “all-ages” music and all of a sudden you both heard a man saying words such as “orgasmic pleasure” and “stimulating condoms”.
Mashable gathered twenty tweet complaints from Spotify users about this advertisement. One person shouted on Twitter “Hey @Spotify, thanks for running those gross trojan commercials. I enjoyed having to explain what "orgasmic" means to my 4 years old.”, while another Twitter user said “I love when my worship playlist is interrupted by a Trojan condoms ad on @Spotify. As far as targeted advertising goes I'd call that a fail.”
In their defense, Spotify told Mashable that the frequency of the ads was reduced over the holidays and they only run for 18+ free users.
Do you think it was a wrong decision by Mashable to let Trojan condoms to put their ads on Spotify? One thing for sure, it is about time to upgrade your Spotify to Spotify Premium/Unlimited!
